Geography of Alicante, Spain

The province of Alicante in which the city is situated is predominantly mountainous in the north and west regions although the south is fairly flat, with the Segura River flowing eastwards through the province. The highest peak, Aitana, part of the Subbaetic Range, reaches 1,558 metres.

Covering a surface area of 201 square kilometres, and situated on the Mediterranean coastline, Alicante benefits from around of 2,800 hours of sunshine every year and enjoys a mild climate with temperatures averaging 19.3 degrees centigrade.
