Hostels (or albuergues in Spainish) are an ideal place to stay for those wishing to travel on a shoestring budget and meet and socialise with likeminded people. Alicante has a limited choice of hostels and does not have a big backpacking culture. One in the city centre which is popular is the Albuergue Juvenil La Florida on Avenida Orihuela, which is normally a halls of residence outside of the academic holidays, and can easily be reached by the main motorway or by train.
