Gun crime increased in 2008 culminated in the deaths of a British honeymoon couple which has resulted in the tightening of security in Antigua under the watchful eye and supervision of a special British police force. International terrorism poses a low threat as does drugs crime. Visitors are warned to keep away from parts of St. John's at night and not to walk alone on country roads at night.
