Beach in Athens, Greece

Nobody comes to Athens for a beach holiday, but if you do want to dip your toes in the sea or just lie on the sand, the seaside resort of Glyfada, on the outskirts of Athens, not far from the airport, is serviceable. It’s a popular destination for weekending Athenians, but few foreigners stay here. It’s easy to get to, but it does get very crowded in the summertime, and the beaches aren’t the best Greece has to offer. The better beaches here are private, and have admission charges starting at around 4 Euros. Nearby Vouliagmeni is a bit more upmarket, and both resorts have some watersports as well as numerous bars, cafes and nightclubs. These may be fine for a day out at the beach from Athens, but if you want a Greek beach holiday, there are far more attractive resorts elsewhere.
