Geography of Athens, Greece

The city is located on the Attic peninsula, on the eastern coast of Greece, facing the Saronic Gulf, an inlet of the Aegean Sea. The historic centre of Athens is located around the Plaka area and the Acropolis, and the wider urban area of Athens covers around 412 km2. Mount Parnitha (1453m) lies to the north of the city while to the south, the port of Piraeus, once a separate city, is now a suburb of Athens.
