When to go to Athens, Greece

July and August are very hot in Athens, and this is a very busy time of year, but if you can handle the heat, there is plenty going on at this time, including the annual Athens Festival. Otherwise, April, May and June are cooler and there will be fewer tourists around. This can be a very pleasant time to visit, but note that Easter is a major holiday in Greece, and hotel rooms book up quickly at this time. September and October are also good times to be in the city but from November to March, Athens can be very cold and dreary, and tourist attractions and facilities will be either closed or operating on a reduced basis, and some hotels and restaurants will also cut back on staff and service.
