Food and Drink in Azores, Portugal

Food and drink in the Azores does not have much variety and may not suit everyone’s taste, but the quality of the fare (particularly seafood) is generally good. Restaurant portions are large and prices range from quite low to the high midranges. Angra, Ponta Delgada and Horta are where the most restaurants can be found and it is recommended to ask around for local favorites. Fish and other seafood are the most highly regarded dishes in the Azores, but also Azorean cheeses and local soups get high marks. Portuguese coffee and orange juice are, as always, delicious. Local alcoholic drinks include wines from Pico, Graciosa and Biscoito (Terceira) and liquors made from passion fruit and Japanese plumb. The local Azorean beer is named “Especial”.
