Whale Watching in Azores, Portugal

Rating (10/10)

From April to November

The Azores are one of the top whale watching destinations in the world. Sperm whales, short finned pilot whales and dolphins are the most commonly seen in the Azores, but also Sowerby’s, True’s, Cuvier’s beaked whales and even Orcas have been spotted. Other marine life to be spotted include loggerhead turtles, sharks, swordfish and marlin. Several companies offer whale watching excursions and promise not to disappoint. Whaling was a principal industry on the Azores until 1985, but now the whales have nothing to fear and – attracted by the warm waters and abundance of fish – come in great numbers during the “whale watching season” of May to October.
