Geography of Bali, Indonesia
The island of Bali has a surface area of only 5,632 square kilometres (2,175 square miles) and is only 55 miles (90 kilometres) long across the north-south axis, whilst measuring less than 140 kilometres (90 miles) from East to West.
The island is famous for its beautiful landscape, and a chain of six volcanoes ranging between 1,350 and 3,014 metres in height, stretch from west to east. There are lush tropical forests, pristine crater lakes, fast flowing rivers and deep ravines, picturesque rice terraces, and fertile vegetable and fruit gardens. The beaches in the South consist of white sand, whereas in beaches in other parts of the island are covered with gray or black volcanic sand.
