Fishing in Barcelona is a very popular pastime, and requires a licence (permiso de pesca) which can be purchased from the Generalitat de Catalunya. One for sea fishing costs around €18 and anglers must be aged 16 years and above. One of the most popular fishing areas is the River Ebro delta, roughly two hours south of Barcelona, famous for its wild carp and large catfish. The season runs from February to October, and there are various clubs in the area for those who want to fish as part of a large group or go on an excursion.
