From January to December

British Columbia offers a wealth of museums and galleries and an impressive performing arts calendar. One of Canada's most-visited museums, the Royal British Columbia Museum is easily one of North America's best. Find legends, traditions, Native American artifacts, mammoths, early settler remnants, an IMAZ theater, and much more. Equally enjoyable in Victoria is the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
Over 15,000 works of art grace the walls of one of the finest galleries in Canada. The gallery contains Canada's finest collection of Japanese art, a range of contemporary art, Emily Carr pieces, and traveling exhibits. A trip to the Maritime Museum of British Columbia in Victoria is always fascinating. In Vancouver try the Museum of Anthropology, part of the University of British Columbia. The Museum of Anthropology is Canada’s largest teaching museum and arguably the city’s best. Enjoy views of the sea and mountains where totem poles were carved and celebrated. The province is also rich in music, theatre (Vancouver Opera), dance (British Columbia Ballet) and stand up comedy. Try the Theatre Royal in Barkerville which features acts once performed to the area’s miners. Throughout BC you will find artists and artisans with art on display. The best areas to see such art is on Granville Island (Vancouver), Sechelt (Sunshine Coast), Nelson (Kootenay Rockies), Parksville and Qualicum Beach (Vancouver Island) and the Queen Charlotte Islands (Northern BC). Vancouver and Victoria have a particularly excellent selection of fine-art galleries.
