Cairns has its own dedicated gay and lesbian tour operators, and whilst not exclusive, there are numerous resorts within the Cairns area which welcome gay visitors. For evening entertainment, the Sapphire Club on Lake Street, is one of the most popular venues. It is run by gay owners and operates gay and lesbian nights on a regular basis. When in town, it is worth picking up a copy of the Pink Guide which provides a detailed overview of gay and lesbian services, accommodation and entertainment venues.
