Crime in Cairns, Australia

With a very low Crime rate, Cairns is one of the safest Cities in Australia, but it is however advisable to take sensible precautions to avoid becoming victim to theft. When on the beach in particular, or whilst on a visit to the Great Barrier Reef, it is preferable that someone stays with your possessions at all times to reduce the risk of theft. Keep valuables out of sight if you do decide to take any with you. A small amount of cash is advisable for the purchase of refreshments and souvenirs, but keep any wallet or money holder away from view.

To report any crime, Cairns police station is on Sheridan Street, and there is also a smaller one on the Esplanade.
