Geography of Cairns, Australia

Cairns is located on the east coast of the Cape York Peninsula on a coastal strip between the Coral Sea and the Great Dividing Range which extends from Ellis Beach in the north to the Johnstone Shire Boundary in the south. The local landscape boasts beaches, tidal wetlands, freshwater lakes, mudflats, mangrove swamps, and rich coastal plains, and the city is also home to the State's highest mountain, Mount Bartle Frere.

Being a tropical region, the climate is considered to be hot, with an average annual maximum temperature of 29°C and 62% humidity.
