Self Catering Accommodation in Cairns, Australia

Self-catering accommodation in Cairns

Self-catering holiday apartments in Cairns offer a great way to enjoy an area with the independence that visitors enjoy when back home, and can sometimes be more cost effective if staying as part of a large group. Many self-catering apartments in Cairns are fully equipped with modern appliances including a washing, machine, dishwasher, crockery and satellite TV. Depending on the accommodation, swimming pools are also available in some complexes. Prices vary according to the season, and expect to budget an average of around A$94 per day for a one bedroom beachside apartment to A$195 per day for up to six people sharing a two bedroom luxury apartment overlooking the beach within a short drive from Cairns.

Many holiday apartments in Cairns have restrictions on how many people are allowed per apartment, so this is worth checking before making a reservation over the phone or online. Air conditioning is a must, so this is always worth looking out for or mentioning if speaking direct to the venue.

Camping in Cairns

Camping is one of the most popular activities in the Cairns region, and especially for those who want to escape the colder weather of Southern Australia. Camping is illegal on the Cairns Esplanade or in Cairns City Council Parks or on the beaches, but outside of the city centre there are National Parks with established camping facilities. However, for most campsites, camping permits are required in these National Parks, and with spaces being limited, visitors are advised to book early. It is possible to purchase a permit on the Queensland Government park management website. Away from the National Parks, most caravan parks also offer camping areas which is a cost effective alternative. Expect to pay around A$32 per night for two adults during peak season (June through to September) for a 4-star powered site, and around A$28 for a site which is unpowered. Facilities vary according to the campsite, but due to the hot temperatures, it is worth looking out for a site which is set amongst the trees to provide shade and a cooler environment. Bookings for campsites can often be made over the Internet or by phone, and it is advisable to book in advance for stays during the busier times of the year.
