Crime in Cairo, Egypt

Generally Cairo is a safe city with little crime other than the usual petty crime and street scammers. The locals are mostly friendly and honest, though soliciting money from a tourist is par for the course and a way of life. Visitors to Cairo should be aware that Cairo has been the subject of a number of terrorist attacks, but this should not deter anybody from visiting. Walking around at night is safe in the main tourist areas and main streets, but it is not recommended you stray of the beaten track particularly around Old Cairo and the City of the Dead.
