Geography of Cairo, Egypt

Cairo is the capital of Egypt situated on the tip north Africa and is home to 8 million inhabitants. Cairo sits on the banks of the Nile, the largest river in the world, and is just south of the Suez Canal, one of the most important man-made waterways ever built, linking European trade with Africa and Asia. The city was designed by Khedive Ismail in the mid 19th century and was inspired by Paris. It covers an area of 82.6sq m (214Km squared). The main language spoken in Cairo is Arabic.
