Snorkeling in Cape Verde

Despite a general lack of decent snorkelling companies and hire services, there can be some excellent snorkelling found in Cape Verde, as long as you stick to the main islands and tourist hotspots. Murdeira Bay in Sal Island is one of the best spots for families and first-time snorkellers. San Pedro Bay offers good snorkelling in Sao Vicente, and there are supervised snorkelling trips organised by the Foya Branca Hotel. There is also organised snorkelling from the Estoril Beach in Sal Rei, Boavista. Fish of a hundred different varieties are plentiful and you may even see turtles too. You may also find interesting snorkelling near the Praiamar Hotel in Santiago, off a rocky shore. Overall, while there is not a huge variety of places available to snorkel in Cape Verde, the places that do have it on offer make it worth the visit alone - Cape Verde truly has some of the best sights and seas in the world.
