From November to March

The sun shines for only about 1-2 hours on average during the winter months. Copenhagen is on the same latitude as Moscow, Scotland and southern Alaska though winters tend to be relatively mild. In the coldest months the temperature hovers around freezing at which point it can snow. The skies, however, are generally cloudy making the air feel colder than it is. Be sure to bring warm clothes, layer appropriately and wear waterproof shoes or boots. Skating is popular at the rink at Kongens Nytorv in the middle of the city. Winter season begins usually in November and lasts until mid-April. Christmas celebrations in Copenhagen begin mid-December but businesses only close on Christmas Day and sometimes Christmas Eve or Boxing Day. Overall, Copenhagen is a good winter holiday destination but don’t expect any sunshine.
