Suggested Itinerary

Day 1: Start your journey on the Spanish coast by flying into Madrid to start the fun. From here you can check in to your lodgings at your leisure. Once you’re ready to venture out, go for a Madrid city walk, taking in the Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and Plaza de España. Visit the Museo del Prado, home of works by Spain's great masters, including Francisco Goya, Diego Velázquez, and El Greco. Then head out into the capital for dinner and a party if you fancy it.

Day 2: Start your second day nice and early to go on a guided sightseeing tour of Madrid. Most tours you can book around here will cover all the good stuff including, Calle Mayor, Gran Via, Cibeles fountain, Alcala Gate, Columbus square and even a Royal Palace visit. In the afternoon, take a visit to the spiritual capital of Spain, Toledo. El Greco created some of his greatest works here, including his most famous painting, "The Burial of Count Orgaz." You can also see the city's cathedral, St. Mary's Synagogue and the Church of Santo Tomé. For tea there are plenty of places to pick up an authentic tapas.

Day 3: Venture out on a trip of El Escorial, Segovia & Valley of the Fallen. In the mountains northwest of Madrid, El Escorial was commissioned by Philip II as a monastery and palace. Many Spaniards consider this feat of architectural excess the eighth wonder of the world. Continue on to beautiful medieval Segovia for the 2,000-year-old, 30-meter-high Roman aqueduct and the almost Disney fairytale castle of the Alcazar, extensively rebuilt in 1862 in an exaggerated version of the 15th-century original. See the Valley of the Fallen, a monument to those who died in the Spanish Civil War. Return to Madrid for a big sleep before travelling in the morning to the Costa del Sol.

Day 4: Travel to the Costa del Sol via the Talgo train. This should take up a fair portion of the day, but at least it gives you time to settle in your new surroundings.

Day 5: Spend a lazy day on one of the many beaches or take on an exciting excursion to nearby Morocco. If you do choose to take the plunge, the ferry will first head to Ceuta, giving a panoramic view of Ceuta. You’ll get to try camelback riding in Marina S’Mir and get a sightseeing tour of Teuran, as well as an authentic lunch included.

Day 6: Travel to Seville and go on a guided tour of Alhambra. Nearby Granada sits on three gentle hills, which are dwarfed on a clear day by the majestic snowcapped peaks of the Sierra Nevada. Atop one of these hill sits the imposing but delicate Alhambra palace. One of the best rewards of climbing up to see it is the view of the city mixed in with orchards, tobacco fields and poplar groves.

Day 7: There are numerous things to do in Seville. A guided sightseeing tour in the city will provide you with visits to the main landmarks including Giralda Tower, Alcázar visit, Columbus’ gravesite and usually a cathedral visit too. End the day in style with a flamenco evening and really get into the local spirit.

Day 8: You can head back to the main area of the Costa del Sol for some more beachtime or grab a flight from the city’s airport home.
