There is no shortage of places to eat in Crete and dining out is pretty cheap. For a meal of excellent quality in a restaurant you can expect to pay around £12 a head including drinks. The variety and diversity of dining out in Crete is as you would expect of a popular tourist destination and there are numerous restaurants serving the finest cuisine from all around the world. There is a fine selection of local restaurants many of which enjoy a barbecue and is pretty special. Seafood and meats are specialities. The service is always polite, friendly and efficient and the waiting staff speak good English. If you are on a budget and want cheap places to eat, tavernas and cafes offer food at reasonable prices and would put most restaurants to shame. The locals are always happy to recommend places to eat. Of course, when it comes to fast-food the usual suspects like MacDonalds and KFC are easy to find, though the local kebab and halafal shops are perfect to soak up the beer.
