The gastronome will be right at home, as the food and drink in the Dominican Republic is exceptional. With a fusion of Spanish, Caribbean and African styles, the nation offers a colourful, sizzling and flavoursome range of dishes from which to choose. Seafood is particularly popular, as is pork and goat. Beef, however, is more expensive owing to most of the island’s beef being exported. You can enjoy dishes ranging from the more mild to the incredibly spicy, depending on your taste. Eating out is also relatively inexpensive, though food and drink in the Dominican Republic can get pricey at peak season and at the more opulent hotels.
