Hiking in Egypt is another great adventure and recreation activity. Along with Bird watching, scuba diving, desert safaris and Nile River cruises, hiking is a great pastime that offers visitors a chance to explore the amazing and mysterious land of Egypt. Few places on earth can boast the history, culture and exotic thrill open to those on an Egyptian walking holiday. The country is brimming with excitement and opportunities for sightseeing, from the majesty of the Pyramids at Giza to the pomp and precision of the tombs and monuments at Luxor. When you walk or trek in Egypt, you are literally following in the footsteps of an ancient people and their awe inspiring civilisation.

Most hikes are easy and involve only few hours walking. There are some more strenuous treks you can choose from. In most places camels can carry the gear. Some of the most popular sites for hiking activity in Egypt are as follows:
The Black Desert: Located outside of the Bahariyya oasis is Egypt's unique desert that offers wonderful hiking site for the tourists as well as for the locals. Mountains of crumbled black stone of height hundreds of feet tall are excellent hiking spots.

The White Desert: Located about some 45 km from Farafra is another mysterious desert of Egypt. The rock formations of the desert are often quite dramatic. The white, cream color desert has massive chalk rock formations that have been created as a result of sandstorms and has been excellent hiking sites.

Sinai Mountains: One of the most popular hiking sites of the world, Sinai Mountains at Egypt is one of the World's oldest massifs. 10 million year-old black volcanic rock formations, interconnected labyrinth of valleys created by the rains and melting snow make this mountain range highly favorable for hikers. The west southern part at Sinai range is mountainous and the highest peak is St. Katherine Mt. 2644 m .The start point for hiking is Bedouin village El-Milga near the well known St. Katherine Monastery. Walk in Egypt's shifting sands, travel down the river Nile and visit the tombs and monuments at Luxor and you can't fail to be caught up in this truly magical country.
