Food Guide - Dining Out in Faro, Portugal

Faro’s economy was based on fishing and surrounding agriculture before the tourism boom, so expect quality seafood and delicious, fresh local produce. Though not as cosmopolitan as Lisbon, Faro’s interna-tional status and residents have brought an influx of cuisine from different parts of the world, including Indian, Italian, French and British. Local Portuguese food, especially seafood, is most recommended as are Portuguese wines such as those from the nearby Alentejo region, Vinho Verde and Port. Also very good (and cheap!) are coffee and pastries. Expect to pay less for local food, particularly away from the main tourist areas.

Restaurant prices in Faro may be higher during peak season and some restaurants may be closed during the winter months, but the cost of eating out is generally considerably less expensive than in most of western Europe, and usually of good quality. Cheap eats can be found for under 5€, while fine dining might set you back around 30€.
