Population of Faro, Portugal

Faro has a population of around 42,000 inhabitants, with a municipal population approaching 60,000. Besides Portuguese, many retirees and ex-pats from Europe live in Faro, mainly British and German, as well as a significant amount of foreign laborers from such countries as Brazil, Cape Verde, Angola and the Ukraine, most of whom work in the region’s largely tourism-based economy. Faro is also the name of the administrative district of Portugal correspondent to the region of the Algarve, of which the city of Faro is the seat.
