From November to May

Most resorts in Florida can provide and book hiking/walking trips. To explore Florida's last remaining untouched wilderness, you will certainly need to be fit, healthy and prepared before embarking on an exotic hiking/walking holiday. In exploring Florida’s great wildernesses there’s plenty to choose from, and no better way to immerse yourself in the region than to see the amazing wildlife which share your walking trails, the friends with whom you share the journey with, to the awe-inspiring views that open up around you. Before you go – know the area you'll be hiking through.

Obtain appropriate maps so you can note where water sources are, the types of wildlife you may encounter, and how far you will be from medical or emergency help. Check with a local ranger or tour guide for safety information and to let them know where you're going. Leave a detailed itinerary with a family member or friend, and in your car. Dress in layers. Two thin layers are better than one thick layer. Wear the proper footwear. Carry a day pack. Never hike alone! Always stretch before beginning a hike. Use trail etiquette: downhill yields to uphill; stay to the right. Wear sunscreen. Be aware of changes in the weather. Carry enough food and water, because hiking burns calories. Keep an eye out for snakes, bees and ticks. Pay close attention to your surroundings and landmarks. Stay calm if you get lost, trust your map and compass.
