Geography of Florida, USA
The capital of Florida, Tallahassee is geographically bordered by Georgia and Alabama to the north. On the west Florida is bordered by Alabama and the Gulf of Mexico. To the south and east, Florida is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. Florida is divided into eight regions – Northwest; North Central; Northeast; Central West; Central; Central East; Southwest; Southeast; Florida & The Keys. Pensacola and St. Augustine once vied for capital status but today Tampa, St. Petersburg are major cities with Sarasota as the cultural capital, Naples a popular seaside retreat and off the mainland, Marco Island which stands as a model of ecological preservation. From the northwest corner of the state, the Florida Uplands run about 275 miles west to east, along the northern edge of the Florida Panhandle and then extends south into the central area of the Florida peninsula.
