Frankfurt boasts some wonderful restaurants and eateries ranging from traditional German fare to eclectic, ethnic cuisine. Visitors will want to sample Frankfurt's famed Handkäs mit Musik (curd cheese on bread, topped with vinegar and onions). Wash it down with the city's favourite drink, Ebblewoi, or apple wine. On the street (Gross Bockenheimer Strasse) you will find a range of food from the infamous frankfurter sausages to sushi. For upscale dining head to Grosse Eschersheimer Strasse or book a table at Restaurant Opera for views over classical Opernplatz square. Fruit and vegetable markets in Frankfurt
Frankfurt has some wonderful fruit and vegetable markets which are dotted across the entire city. Visitors will find fresh, local produce at the studenty Bockenheimer Wochenmarkt, the Bornheimer Wochenmarkt on Berger Straße, the Erzeugermarkt Konstablerwache known for its local produce, the Frankfurter Wochenmarkte where every day in Frankfurt is Market Day, the Markt in der Schillerstraße which is a busy food market, and Sudbahnhof Wochenmarkt. Two of the highlight fruit and vegetable markets in Frankfurt include the Wochenmarkt und Markthalle Hochst which has been in operation since 1356, and the Großmarkthalle where you will find fruit, vegetables and New Age Architecture. The Großmarkthalle (wholesale market hall) is 250 meters long, 50 meters wide and 38 meters high, of reinforced concrete flanked on both sides by imposing storage towers. The Großmarkthalle is one of the largest structures of its kind in Germany, and serves as an important depot for fruit and vegetables imported from France, Italy, Holland and Spain, with some 200 traders selling their produce. The building has been a listed monument since 1972.
