Kite Festival

Each November, kite flyers from around the world gather at for the annual which takes advantage of the strong Atlantic Trade Winds that are strongest at that time of year. The festival usually lasts a weekend, beginning with a Friday afternoon “free fly” in which anyone can – and does – participate. Saturday is the day for competition, with contests and demonstrations of skills by world-class kite makers and craftsmen. On Sunday, the entire beach is given over to family kite-flying as 150 or more kites are handed out to children, and little toy parachutes drop sweets and toys from the sky. The weekend culminates with a fabulous fireworks display on Sunday evening.
