Greece is renowned for its water sports and canoeing tops the list! Canoeing, considered ‘treading lightly on earth’, requires a normal level of physical fitness since it’s more about skill and less about strenuous movements. The popular areas for canoeing in Greece are the Lyras Lake in Thrace, the Kremaston Lake and Plastira Lake in Thessaly, the Nestos River as well as the Ionion Sea. A number of water sports companies organize canoeing tours and competitions. The two- paddled canoes are mostly used in Greece. Spring and summer are the best seasons for canoeing in lakes, and October to May is suitable for river canoeing.
