When to go to Hong Kong

The best time to visit Hong Kong’s subtropical climate is early spring or late autumn. During March/April and October/November the days are generally warm and clearer. The summer months June to mid-September are the hottest and when humidity soars. Summer is also typhoon season. Winter is typically cool and overcast. Temperatures from late September to December are around 70° to 78°F (21°-26°C), and the humidity drops to 70%. January and February are the coldest months, when temperatures can drop to 50°F (10°C) but usually stay between 50° and 60°F (14°-20°C). You'll want a jacket during this time.

Hong Kong's peak visitor season used to be in spring and autumn, but now tourists come to Hong Kong virtually year-round; especially from neighboring mainland China. It's best, therefore, to make hotel reservations in advance, particularly if you're arriving during the Chinese New Year, or the two peak vacation periods for mainland Chinese (a.k.a. the "Golden Weeks" beginning May 1st and October 1st).
