Erau Festival

The annual Erau Festival in Kalimantan celebrates the anniversary of the founding of Tenggarong, the former seat of the ancient Kutai Sultanate. The festival teaches participants and visitors about the traditions of Dayak and Malay through numerous cultural performances sporting events and exhibitions. The highlight is when the effigy of a dragon is paraded down to the Mahakam River and set adrift to ward of evil for another year.
