When to go to Indonesia
Indonesia has two distinct seasons; wet and dry. The rainy season is October to April and due to the tropical climate comes in short, sudden downpours though it can also rain for days. The worst period is between December and February when weather conditions have been known to disrupt travel plans, clogging up muddy back roads or making the sea too dangerous to cross on the ferry. The most popular times to visit Indonesia is between April and September when the temperature is higher and the weather conditions are dry. Temperatures are high all year round with little difference from month to month. The daily range of temperatures is small in coastal areas, but this increases inland and in the mountains. Average temperatures in Indonesia range from about 27 degrees Celsius in the summer to 24 degrees Celsius in the winter.
A large decrease in tourist numbers means that Indonesia’s ‘peak dry season’ no longer presents the same kind of deterrent it once did. The December–January Christmas holiday period and the school holidays still brings a wave of migratory Australians, and Europeans head to Bali, Java, Sumatra and Sulawesi in July and August. But climatic impediments aside, pretty much any time is a good time to go to Indonesia at the moment.
