From November to February

Japan might not be the first place that springs to mind when you think of skiing holidays, but you'd be surprised. Japan has twice hosted the Winter Olympics while the northernmost island of Hokkaido receives between 20 and 30 feet of snow a year, while mountains in the central regions are high enough to be snow-capped for large parts of the year. Ski resorts in Japan are, however, not that common, meaning that most skiing areas in Japan are mostly small towns where the accommodation amounts to nothing more than small inns and bed and breakfasts run by local families. Many ski runs in Japan also have options to pay by the hour. The best ski resorts are to be found on Hokkaido, namely in Niseko and Sapporo, while the mountain areas in the Chuba region, especially Nagano, and Niigata are also good locations.
