Nightlife in Japan
Rating (8/10)
The nightlife in Japan is up there with some of the best nightlife destinations in Europe. Friday is always a big night in Japan as scores of office workers descend from their high rise offices to party the night away. There are various kinds of clubs, from high-end 'hostess' clubs and jazz bars with high cover charges (of several thousand yen). On the other end of the scale there are 'Shot Bars' and themed 'danceclubs' and 'karaoke bars'.
The best nightlife hotspots in Tokyo are around Shibuya, Kabuki-cho and Ginand Rappongi. For those heading to Kyoto, the districts of Gion and Ponto-cho are known as the best places to find entertainment there. Live music can also be found in many bars and clubs. Takutaku, Ringo, and Cafe David, all have live music most nights of the week and of course, there are also many karaoke bars all over the city.
However, Kyoto is also famous for more traditional Japanese forms of entertainment, particularly theatre and dance. Visitors to Kyoto should head for Gion Corner, where there are daily performances from March to November, including music, dance, drama and flower arranging. Kyoto is also the centre of the Geisha tradition and the Gion district is where most Geisha can be found,
