Surfing in Japan

Although at first glance, Japan may not seem a great surfing destination but look past the neon lights of the bustling cities and you'll discover that surfing in Japan in big business. Popular surfing spots in Japan can be found around Chiba, Shonan, Shizuoko, Wakayama, Kyushu and Okinawa. There are places to rent surf boards and other surfing equipment, though these are usually only found around the most popular destinations, which on the down side, can get rather crowded, especially at weekends. The best surfing conditions are usually between August and October.
