With all those rivers, it’s little wonder that canoeing is a popular pastime in Laos. You have several options here for how you’d like to go about it. First of all you can do the obvious thing and join one of the many adventure tours that operate with the blessing of the fastest-growing industry in Laos (tourism, via the Tourist Board); you can rent a kayak and give it a go yourself or alternatively if you’re feeling really industrious you can buy the materials to make one yourself – there really is no limit in Laos when it comes to kayaking, which is particularly popular. Kayaking hire is relatively cheap, though if you don’t have any experience, you should at least consider getting some expert hands on board.
