The city of Las Vegas is not generally known for its outdoor sports especially abseiling, also known as rappelling. Yet visitors are always pleasantly surprised to discover Red Rock National Park approximately 20 minutes west of The Strip. Set within the beautiful desert backdrop of the Spring Mountains is the stunning Red Rock National Park where many adventurers spend their days hiking, rock climbing, and abseiling. There are many outfitters with abseiling courses and equipment rentals for the beginners as well as the advanced. Park entry is about $12 per vehicle and allows you access to a scenic drive that loops through the park. At various stops along the drive are paths that lead to hiking trails where climbers can be seen abseiling down shear rock cliffs. Be sure to pack a hearty lunch to refuel after a hard day abseiling – there are many picnic sites in the park.
