New Year's Eve

Despite the ambivalence of London's authorities in recent years, the New Year's Eve celebrations in Trafalgar Square continue to thrive. Every year on New Year's Eve, thousands of people gather at Trafalgar Square to see in the New Year. The celebrations are often rowdy, but they are generally safe and friendly. If you do decide to visit Trafalgar Square, make sure that you set off in good time, because the public transport system around Trafalgar Square becomes increasingly congested the closer you get to there. If you think that the celebrations in Trafalgar Square might be a little too much, why not visit one of the many fireworks displays that will be taking place across London? One of the biggest will be at the London Eye, and the best places to see it will be around Buckingham Palace and along the Victoria Embankment.

There are special public transport arrangements across London on New Year's Eve that should ensure that you manage to get home without having to walk, or find a taxi. All tube trains will run with a 15 minute frequency in central London and every half hour in outer London and the suburbs. What is more, they will run throughout the night and all buses and underground trains will be free from 11.45 in the evening until after 4 am the next day. There will be additional buses as well.
