The London Marathon

The 26 385 yard mile (42.2 kilometre) London Marathon, from Greenwich Park to the Mall, has become an annual event in London's life since it started in 1981. Even if you do not feel up to taking part yourself, there are plenty of places where you can watch the runners as they fly, and in some cases stumble, past you. The majority of runners take the event seriously, but there are also many in fancy-dress and bizarre costumes. You ma even spot the odd celebrity too!
