This festival and extravaganza began in the year 1215, when the Lord Mayor of London walked from the Mansion House to the royal Courts of Justice to pledge allegiance to the English Crown. The tradition is maintained today, with the current Lord Mayor riding in a coach, but nowadays he is accompanied by a major procession that is longer than the route he travels. Other spectacles include a fly past by an RAF aerobatics team and the Lord Mayor's fireworks display in the evening. It is free to view the Lord Mayor's Show.
