The Masai Mara is located in southeast Kenya. Covering some 1,530 sq km, it’s bounded on the south by the Serengeti Park, to the west by the Siria escarpment, and by Maasai pastoral ranches in the north.
The Masai Mara is bordered by Tanzania’s Serengeti on its south side, and the rest of Kenya to the east, north and west.
The Maasai people speak the Maasai language, but the national language of Kenya is Swahili, although English is also spoken, and most Kenyans who work in the tourist trade have good English.
The currency in the Masai Mara is the Kenyan shilling (Ksh), which is divided into 100 cents. Notes are in denominations of KSh1000, 500, 200, 100, 50 and 20.
