Geography of Sardinia, Italy

Sardinia is the second largest island after Sicily in the Mediterranean Sea and is located slightly south of the island of Corsica and north-west of Sicily. The island is 24,000 sq km and is geologically older than mainland Italy. The island is made up of mountains, which were formed earlier than the Alps and the Apennines, lush green twisting valleys, ragged coastline and cliffs, and four powerful main rivers; the Flumendosa, the Tirso, the Mannu, and the Coghinas.
