The canoeing scene in Tahiti is huge, and the island hosts the biggest canoe race in the world, the Hawaiki Nui Va'a held in October of every year. There are also opportunities to hire an outrigger canoe, and the best place to find a hiring outlet is on Papeete’s coast. Once you have the canoe you can row along the pristine waters of the south pacific, and even canoe round Tahiti’s tiny accompanying islands.
