Geography of Tahiti, French Polynesia

Tahiti is an island located in the South Pacific Ocean and forms part the Society Islands in French Polynesia. The island is divided into two circular areas that are joined by an isthmus. The larger area is called Tahití Nui and the smaller is known as Tahiti Iti. Tahiti has a green mountainous landscape, with streams, waterfalls rainforests and deep valleys. The two volcanic peaks on the island are called Mounts Orohena and Roonui.
