The Azores have a decent selection hotels in the 2-4 star range. These all tend to fill up during peak season (July-September) so it is advisable to book months in advance. 4 star hotels are around 80-110€ a night in low season and 100-165€ during peak season, while 3 stars will cost 60-100€ for low and 95-120€ for high. 2 star hotels round out at about 40/90€ low/high. Manor houses which operate as hotels fall somewhere in the middle, while prices at rural hotels and pensions can often be negotiated in advance.

The Azores currently has three youth hostels, or “Pousadas de Juventude” on São Miguel (Ponta Delgada), Terceira (Angra do Heroísmo) and Pico. The Pico hostel is in the Convento São Pedro de Alcântara sec. XVII on Rua João Bento de Lima. Prices for beds are 11/14€ (low/high seasons) and 31/41€ for private double rooms with WC. Ponta Delgada’s hostel on Rua São Francisco Xavier is priced only slightly higher and is in the center of town. The hostel in Angra do Heroísmo has similar bed prices and also offers private cottages for 46.50/56.50€ a night.

The Azores has only a few resorts, with two of them on the island of São Miguel. They are priced quite reasonably, starting at only 67€ for a double room in low season and 110€ during high season. Caloura Hotel Resort, 17 km from Ponta Delgada, provides beautiful ocean views and a surrounding nature full of stunning volcanic rock hillsides covered in trees and flowers. The resort also is also equipped with a PADI Scuba Diving Center. The other resort on São Miguel is Hotel Bahia Palace in Água d'Alto, which boasts a lovely beach front location in a stunning and serene setting, and is the more expensive of the two. Terceira’s only resort is the Terceira Mar Hotel in Angra do Heroísmo, which features spa facilities, a Turkish bath, an infinity pool and spectacular views. It is located only 500 meters from the historic city of Angra do Heroísmo.

Several options can be found online and if you are planning to stay in self-catering accommodation in the Azores during the months of July-September, make sure you book a few months in advance, as these months are particularly busy for the islands’ limited lodging facilities. Prices vary depending on the season and the nature of the accommodation.
