Delhi’s main domestic and international airport is located 23 kms south of the capital, and serves as the main gateway for foreign visitors to the country. The airport in Delhi is both an important domestic and international link for the rest of the country as well. The safest and fastest way to reach the airport in Delhi is by registered taxis, easily available from any point in the city, and cost approximately Rs.300 from central Delhi. Renting Cars: A good way to see Delhi is by driving around. Cars are easily available for hire, and costs can vary from Rs.700 ($18) for a 4-5 seater, to Rs.2000 ($40) for an 11 seater, on a daily basis (12 hours). If traveling outside Delhi the costs go up. All cars are driven by friendly, experienced, safe and English speaking drivers. The price of the car includes parking charges, Inter-state toll charges, gasoline charges and driver’s pay.
For self-driven rental cars, the basic requirements are a valid international license, a minimum age of 25 years, a deposit of Rs.30,000 ($360) which will not be refunded in case of accidents/damage/theft of car accessories. The cost of the gasoline is to be borne by the renter. At the time of hiring, make sure all the valid vehicle documents are present in the vehicle at all times.

Driver’s License requirements: For self-driven vehicles, a valid international license is mandatory, and the driver must be at least 25 years of age.

The maximum rate for a ticket within the city is Rs.20. For inter-state travel by buses from Delhi, government buses charge between Rs.70 to Rs.200, depending on your destination. Private air-conditioned coaches which have more comfortable seating and facilities will cost anywhere between Rs.350 to Rs.700. For inter-state travel buses in Delhi depart throughout the day at specific times, so you choose a time convenient to you.
Taxis: Taxis/autos in Delhi are the most preferred mode of transport for both locals as well as tourists. Specifically for tourists, Pre-Paid Taxi Booths are available at the domestic and international airports as well the New Delhi Railway Station, essentially to prevent incidents of over-charging, refusal, misbehaviour or harassment by Taxi drivers.
There are a sufficient number of Auto Prepaid booths in locations across the capital like hospitals, markets, bus terminals, railway stations and the Airport, where the rates are regulated and you are safe from being cheated. It is advisable to set out for your chosen destination at least an hour in advance since the traffic can be quite trying.
Cycling: With Delhi’s bustling population and choc a bloc traffic it’s advisable not to cycle within the city. However, cycling expeditions are available around Delhi.
Water transport: Delhi is an inland city and has no water transportation.
Hitch-hiking in Delhi: Hitchhiking is unsafe in Delhi and therefore not recommended.
