The eastern side beaches are located in the hotel zone and you will find beaches on sides, the lagoon side and the sea side. Every hotel along this zone has a beach front view. Although these beaches are all open to the public and are excellent spots for beach sports and activities, these beaches are open to the Caribbean Sea which means the waters can be unpredictable. Cancun hotel beaches and the marinas use colored warning flags so you will always know what the condition of the sea is like. Before you venture off into the water; pay attention to these warning flags and all local signs regarding the tides and the undertow currents.
We recommend the northern beaches in Cancun (are Playa Las Perlas, Playa Linda, Playa Langosta, Playa Tortugas, and Playa Caracol ) are located north of the hotel zone and face the Isla Mujeres (or the Island of Women). The Isla Mujeres is a small, beautiful island located just 8 miles across the Behia de Mujeres (or the Bay of Women) from Cancun. The island protects the beaches on this coast beach making them a wonderful place for the children to play or to practice water sports like jet skiing. The northern beaches include Playa Las Perlas, Playa Linda, Playa Langosta, Playa Tortugas, and Playa Caracol. All of these beaches are very clean and are open to the public. In particular, we suggest the beaches facing the Bahía de Mujeres (on the northern part of the Zona Hotelera) for swimming. If you want to visit the Isla Mujeras itself, from the Cancun International Airport you can take a van to Puerto Juarez or even Gran Puerto Cancun which is north of downtown Cancun about 15 minutes.
