Capital of the Costa Blanca
Hostels (or albuergues in Spainish) are an ideal place to stay for those wishing to travel on a shoestring budget and meet and socialise with likeminded people. Alicante has a limited choice of hostels and does not have a big backpacking culture. One in the city centre which is popular is the Albuergue Juvenil La Florida on Avenida Orihuela, which is normally a halls of residence outside of the academic holidays, and can easily be reached by the main motorway or by train. Hostel Pintor Velazquez is another alternative, located within walking distance from the beach. Expect to pay from around €15 per night for a hostel during peak season.
In and around Alicante, hostel accommodation can generally be booked over the phone or online, and it is always advisable to book early if visitors wish to travel during peak season.
