Bali: Crime

Bali Crime

Violent crime in Bali is not widespread, but petty crime such as bag snatching and pick-pocketing (especially on Bemos) is common in tourist areas, and therefore visitors should take care when travelling. Holidaymakers should avoid leaving any valuables in parked rental cars.

When on the beach in particular, it is preferable that someone stays with your possessions at all times to reduce the risk of theft. Keep valuables out of sight if you do decide to take any with you. A small amount of cash is advisable for the purchase of refreshments and souvenirs, but keep any wallet or money holder away from view. Leaving valuables lying around in hotel rooms is equally unsafe, especially in Losmans in Bali. On arrival, it is worth asking at reception if there is a safe or storage area available.
